The Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS) is a non-profit academic research body established in 1989 by the Greek Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religion Affairs. It is closely associated with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (SECE) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) (est. 1837), which is the oldest and most prestigious academic institute in Greece.
The aim of the Institute is to promote the Research and Development in all different research disciplines of SECE, among which in research themes that include the telecommunications systems and techniques as well as the computer systems and their applications in a variety of areas.
The personnel of ICCS consists of academic staff (~80 University Professors), 40 senior researchers and more than 800 researchers (including PhD students) in more than 50 Labs and Research Teams and Groups as well as collaborating faculty members and permanent or long term technical and administrative personnel.
The I-SENSE Group that is responsible for the PILOTING project activities was founded in 2002 and is one of the Research Groups within ICCS. It has extensive expertise working on EU-funded research projects and significant presence in international conferences and scientific journals. The I-SENSE Research Group (http://i-sense.iccs.gr) is very active in areas dealing with Intelligent Transportation Systems, embedded systems and sensor networks, emergency communications, alerting systems, communication protocols and gateway design and implementation.

ICCS will lead and participate in the Work-Package on “Robot control station and I&M data management” by implementing the solutions for IoT platform connectivity, Inspection and Maintenance data management system as well as Artificial Intelligence based solutions for automatically detecting defects on visual inspection data received by robots.
Additionally, will participate in the Work-Package on “Iterative System Integration” as well as in the Work-Package “Large-scale pilot demonstrations” by deploying the developed solutions in-field experimentation and demonstration.
Finally, ICCS will also contribute in work packages related to “Exploitation, communication and dissemination”, “Coordination” as well as in the “Specification and design of PILOTING I&M Robotic-based platform” work-package, contributing on the development of the specifications and the design of the overall PILOTING platform.
The I-SENSE Group has a long expertise in European research projects, having participated in more than 120 projects, serving as the Project Coordinator and/or having other key roles such as Technical/Scientific/Innovation/Dissemination Manager, WP leader and other.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 871542.
